Staff Workstation
Requirements
- A Pentium IV 1.4 GHz or
faster processor
- At least 256 MB RAM. Some
functionality will be slow unless there is 512 MB RAM.
- At least 400 MB of free disk
space
- Sound card for audible system

- For WindowsNT 4.0, a virtual memory setting of at least
80 MB or the size of the PC's RAM, whichever is
greater

or later, Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, or Firefox
0.8 or later is the minimum

recommended
- Secure Shell (SSH) software.
For non-Innovative local systems, library staff workstations that will be
transmitting bibliographic and patron records to the MeLCat server must
have SSH software.For information, see the MeLCat Technical Requirements.
- Staff workstations.
Innovative libraries' staff workstations do MeLCat functions through their
local Innovative servers. For non-Innovative libraries, access to MeLCat
servers needs to be possible through any local firewall software. For
dedicated or dial-up connections, the minimum bandwidth recommended is 56
KBPS.
- IP addresses for staff
workstations at non-Innovative libraries. The MeLCat servers are behind a
firewall. Access to these servers is controlled by password and limited to
known IP addresses for the staff workstations. Known IP addresses for
staff workstations must be able to be provided, e.g., dedicated or static
IP addresses, a range of IP addresses used by library workstations.
Dial-up access for staff workstations requires dedicated or static IP
addresses that do not change each time you dial in to the Internet.
